Starting my network
Well, if you’ve been reading recently - you may know that i’m going to go under a network name. This is for many reasons which i will outline in this post.
The name is one of the most important aspects for this network. It needs to be brandable, very easy to remember and pronounce. Instead of telling people all of my individual sites, I can just say “Hey, visit this site to see a full list of my websites”
I’ve had the network at the back of my mind for around a month now. Yet, not finding a domain. Yesterday i found one that was just right. I will now go under the name of 2slice media. It is on a landing page right now, but i have big hopes for it.
I have chosen to outsource for a design, and i have a few designers on my mind. Lets just hope that i get a nice stunning design for this one. If you think you could do a nice design for it, feel free to contact me with a link to your portfolio.
Using .htaccess, I made the domain always point to http://2slice.com. If you want to find out how to do this, visit Nate’s blog. Whilst registering, i thought it would also be handy to grab the domain twoslice as i expect some people will make that mistake
Advantages of going as a network:
- Better for SEO - You can link to all of your sites
- Better for traffic - All your sites will get visited more
- Easier to show your sites - You just need to link a person to one website instead of 5
Disadvantages of going as a network:
- Branding - Look at Allen’s post, he showed us that detailing all of our sites isn’t always a good thing. Do you really want your name attached to all of the sites you manage?
- Users - You may not want some users to visit some of your other sites for whatever reasons you have.
I think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I also forgot the coolness factor. I’ve always loved network sites, and wanted to own my own. Don’t be mistaken for websites like the 9rules network. I’m talking about sites like the ifroggy network, CNET network, Developerhut network, Sofresco network (offline) and, there are many more.
However, I’m not going to be slapping a big network bar at the top of each of my network’s sites. Just a small link down the bottom, by the copyright.
Maybe these would be better described as “media companies” but, i still love the ideas ![]()

Thanks for the mention. Good luck with your network.
So this means you’ll be creating more websites?
Thanks for the comments guys.
Patrick - No problem for the mention, I didn’t think you would come and comment
Jake - I will be creating more websites once menewsha is more stable. If i left it right now, the revenue would go down.
Although the name sounds a little scary, I like it. Good job!
Can’t wait to see your next site actually.
I copyrighted the whole network name near footer idea. Sorry.
I love the 2Slice thing you have so far but you should have moved the gradient in more as it gets snipped at the edges.
I will be interested in seeing how this works out for you.
Very great to hear josh, I’m always here if you need any type of support. Glad to see you start hitting things up again.
[…] I’d like to say congrats to Josh Buckley who this week announced the formation of his network of sites called 2slice Media. Always great to see more people building networks and discussing […]
