Preparing for a new year

With 2008 just 20 days away, it’s time to start preparing the goals for the new year ahead. Whether it’s to make more than $1,000,000 in profit from your website, or maybe it’s simply just to expand your business. Setting goals is important for improvement of yourself and your business. After all, without setting goals, how will you achieve them?

There are 3 main things that should be kept in mind when setting these goals:

  • It should be realistic - There’s no point in setting a goal if you have no chance of achieving it. Set a goal that you can reach.
  • It should be challenging - On the other hand, it should be challenging. You don’t want a goal that you will set and achieve in the first week of January. You will feel much better if you achieve a goal that was challenging. There can be a fine line between this goal and being realistic. So, think very carefully about this one
  • It should be measurable - This doesn’t apply all of the time. But, generally - your goal should be measurable. This is so you can easily tell if you have reached your goal by the end of the year. Goals such as earn $x amount of money by the end of the year from websites can easily be measured.

I like setting goals because it shows me how far i have come from the previous year. This year i think it will be quite exciting to look at my goals as i’m pretty sure i have overcome them by a lot. If there’s any goals i didn’t reach, why didn’t I reach it? It’s not always a bad thing by not reaching a goal you set. Maybe you accomplished something much better than one of the goals you set.
In some of my next posts, before the new year, I will outline my 2008 objectives. Then, i will reflect on my 2007 objectives, to see if i accomplished them or not. If so, how well? Let’s see if any of you guys have set goals yet, or maybe you are preparing them?

Organising things better is definitely a good goal. But, don’t worry - i haven’t even thought properly about my goals yet. Now is just a great time to start.

I’ve found that making your goals reasonable is vital. Having big goals sounds great on paper, but achieving them can be almost impossible for most people. Better to set a reasonable goal, reach it and then set another higher one.

Definitely. You will feel much better by actually achieving a goal. However, you need to be careful about making it challenging aswell. You don’t want to set a goal that’s too easy.

I’ve found that setting a lot of smaller goals as opposed to setting a few very large goals actually gets you a long way in regards to the achievement of objectives and the success of your endeavours to improve or change.

    Great post again Josh :)
