Josh is getting a mac

I’ve never been too much of an apple fan until recently. Sure, i’ve had an ipod like most people these days, but that’s about as far as i went. It’s only been recently, since windows vista has been terrible that i’ve looked elsewhere. Now i’ve looked into macs in the past, and i just didn’t see such a big reason to switch over. But, with the vista problems in the last few weeks, i’ve decided that i’ll have both a pc and a mac.

It hasn’t been easy to choose which mac to buy, all i knew is that i wanted a notebook. I waited til macworld to make my decision, and it wasn’t too hard in the end. As many of you should know, apple recently released a 3rd notebook in their current product line. It’s the ultra portable macbook air. Whilst this notebook has a great design, the specs still leave something to be desired. That’s my reason for going against the air.

In the end, i chose the macbook pro. The fact that it has a larger screen and i’ll be able to use it on my 30″ monitor makes it great. I’m definitely looking forward to this baby arriving in the mail :D

So, expect to see some podcasts (hopefully) in the near future. Running on a mac and a laptop will be  a new experience to me.

    Nice choice on the mac.

If you don’t like vista maybe you should check out Linux. :) There are lots of great distro’s.

You’ll love it. I switched to make in December (bought a Macbook Pro too) and it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought.

I have a high end gaming PC, yet my Mac is blazingly faster than it.

Nice! I want one of those Macbook Air’s but of course they’re for two different purposes. :)

Ever since Mac has been packaged with Unix, it has been a great OS. You will enjoy - I happen to be awaiting a brand new MacBook in the mail as well ;)

Congrats on the decision Josh, the Pro will hardly let you down ;) I’m still “stuck” with my good ol’ first generation regular MacBook, but I love it. Small, portable, and most of all, as stable and troublefree as no Windows computer I’ve experienced.

    It’s about time!

I have no doubt you’ll thoroughly enjoy it, and you’ll be used to it in no time.

My fiancee has a Macbook Pro, but I just can’t get used to it. She is a designer by trade, so swears by it but when it comes to writing and editing text, the Mac just drives me crazy. No right-click button - what’s with that? You can only delete text in one direction, no page up and page down buttons? Grrrrr!

I know these are things you can get used to or learn shortcuts for, but for me I would rather spend time working rather than learning new methods that just leave me frustrated.

I will concede that Vista stinks, though!

Nice choice Josh, I’ve got a MacBook myself — they’re pretty neat.

Also, Martin, the shortcuts didn’t take me so long to learn, you can set it up so that double tap does right click and I believe there is a key combination also. Regarding deleting in one direction, by pressing fn + backspace you can delete as a ‘del’ button would on Windows. It’s different but once you get used to it, it may as well always been like that!

Very nice! I’ve just bought a new laptop - Dell - can wait till it comes! I would really like a Macbook but unfortunately can’t afford one at the moment. I’ll have one eventually!

    Nice choice.

I got a Mac last January and it’s superb, enjoy it!

I made the move from a tower running XP to a MacBook Pro (probably the same as yours), and I love it to bits, and probably won’t ever go back. You definitely made the right choice - I think the Air is only really for space travellers!

If you haven’t used a Mac before, you’ll find it a little weird for a week or so - but it shouldn’t take long to find all the apps/shortcuts etc. Podcast, video blogging etc are all doable straight out of the box.

Welcome to the Apple cult. I purchased a MacBook Pro last July and I absolutely love it.
